Guatemala helds important meeting

August 27, 2019. Yesterday began the la XLI Reunión Portuaria del Istmo Centroamericano (REPICA), one of the most important events in the area.

Its purpose is to exchange experiences by discussing problems related to port operations and solutions.

Authorities of the Ministry of Communications, Infrastructure and Housing, as well as Empresa Portuaria Quetzal (EPQ) attended the opening ceremony. Repica is held once a year and its headquarter is rotating at request of the member countries: Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panamá, Belice y República Dominicana. Repica will be held this year at Museo Casa Santo Domingo Hotel, Antigua Guatemala.

Some topics to discuss are environment, advances in port technology, organizational and legislative improvements, compliance with international standards, modernization plans, and innovations, among others. The main discussion panels will be economic integration and maritime trade facilitation and the role of the port authority in maritime trade facilitation, among others.

This event is organized by Comisión Centroamericana de Transporte Marítimo (Cocatram) based in Nicaragua and the members of Repica in Guatemala: Comisión Portuaria Nacional, Ministerio de Comunicaciones, Infraestructura y Vivienda, EPQ, Empresa Portuaria Nacional Santo Tomás de Castilla and Terminal Ferroviaria Puerto Barrios.

We are sure this experience will enrich the participants and the result will be a better international maritime-port trade tactics and strategies in the region.
